A contested divorce is one in which the parties cannot agree, either about getting divorced or about the terms of the divorce.
Contested divorces are a common scenario, given that there are a variety of sensitive issues to be worked out between a couple that has decided to break their union. Some of these issues include:
- Custody of children
- Child support
- Division of assets and property
- Allocation of debts
Where the partners cannot come to an agreement, even with the aid of their respective divorce attorneys, the couple must then take their issue(s) to a court to be decided.
"One would not often consider a divorce attorney among those who are a joy to work with. Lisa Kleinberg is the exception to that rule. My divorce process could have been solved quickly and easily but the attorney for the other side used every means possible to drag it out over two years. In the end, the case went to trial and the judge adopted almost 100% of Lisa’s draft decision in his ruling. An astounding success." -Rob L
